Joy Harjo of the Mvskoke Nation is an acclaimed poet, musician, writer and performer. She has released four albums of original music and won a NAMMY for Best Female Artist. Her one-woman show, Wings of Night Sky, Wings of Morning Light, premiered in Los Angeles and will soon be a book. She has a commission from The Public Theater of NYC to write the musical play We Were There When Jazz Was Invented, which will revise the origin story of American music to include southeastern indigenous music.

Joy has been featured on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, Jim Lehrer News Hour, and a Bill Moyer’s series on poetry. She travels internationally to perform solo and with her band the Joy Harjo and the Poetic Justice Revival. Her seven books of poetry include She Had Some Horses and her newest Conflict Resolution for Holy Beings. Her awards include the New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, a Rasmussen US Artists Fellowship, the William C Williams Award from the Poetry Society of America, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. She is at work on a new album of original music. She lives in the Mvskoke Nation in Oklahoma.
